The Movie: 7.8/10
I like it. Is that enough? No? You people are so demanding.

So, why did I like Ready or Not? Good question. It has enough weirdness and fun and gore all balanced just right to be a good time. It’s not like a serious horror flick, but it’s seriously horrific at times. You know what I mean? There is blood and violence in unexpected bursts, and then you laugh at the awkwardness, and THEN you think “Eweee, that’s horrible!” One bit of advice, don’t be hired help in this house, that’s all I’m saying.

It is a fun, if not gruesome, little story. A woman marries into a family who have been successful as a board game empire for many years. They didn’t get that successful without the help of some, shall we say spiritual, help. They are vile people, just keep that in mind. Their money doesn’t make them nice.

The hunt is on, ready or not! I won’t tell you the details, but just know that you don’t want to marry into this family. They have a very specific kind of disregard for anyone who is not in the family, their health and well being is not a concern, trust me.

I enjoyed this movie a lot. It’s fun, it’s crazy, it’s wacky and even gets super weird, which is always that much more fun and crazy and wacky. I am convinced our leading lady is truly trapped in a very very very bad situation and her response to it all is quite interesting. She looks more cool than the character needs to look, but we’ll chalk that up to the costume director wanting to make her very photograph-able. As her outfit, in other words her wedding dress, descends into a ratty muddy bloody mess, she becomes a potential action figure, Converse shoes and bullet belt included.

This is a great romp in the macabre, and you can’t be too delicate. Some of the unfortunate folks who don’t make it through the night do go in quite unexpected and undignified ways, so be prepared. I say watch this and then go retro and watch Death Becomes Her. I don’t know why I think of that movie with this one, must be the “ultra rich people are crazy” theme 🙂

Audio & Video: 8/10
Ready Or Not Comes to Blu-ray courtesy of 20th Century Fox and an AVC encoded 1080P transfer in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. This is a clean looking transfer that looks good but the yellowish tinge put over the movie in post does take away some of the beauty. I saw no signs of artifacting or macro-blocking and skin tones for the most part looked natural.

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track used here is pretty subtle given the subject material. Gunshots do ring loud though and music utilizes the rear surround speakers. Dialog is clean and crisp and delivered centrally.
