  1. Thanks for your detailed comment Rob, I do remember the old 80’s one now you mention it, that was the one I was trying to think of on the show. The Rocketeer is indeed a treasure, I file it alongside Sky Captain and Flash Gordon in my collection 🙂

  2. Excellent show (kinda goes without saying, but i’ve said it now).

I too have just watched this movie and, much to my surprise, i really enjoyed it. Choice of actors, sets, costumes. All great! It was good to see the guy from The Punisher 2 and Kill The Irishman as Porthos. Most portrayals of Porthos have him a little on the portly side. Here he looks like he can realistically handle a sword.

A definate homage to the Richard Lester Three Musketeers & Four Musketeers movies from the 80s. Now those are Musketeer movies Cidtalk should see.

I’m in agreement with Cidtalk, i absolutely hated the servant character. Over-vulgar and painfully unfunny. Roy Kinnear played this character much better in the 80s versions, and with no dialogue (have i mentioned the awesome 80s versions? I have. The ones with Michael York, Oliver Reed, Charlton Heston, Raquel Welsh, Christopher Lee and many more? So sorry, i’ll not mention them again………or will i?).

There was a Charlie Sheen / Kiefer Sutherland sad effort sometime in the 90s. I think that had the Bryan Adam’s song you were trying to remember. Never saw it so can’t be sure. It might be really good. Then again, it never got a sequel. Hmmm.

Thanks for mentioning Dogtanian. Now i can’t get the blasted theme tune out of my head.

On a totally separate note, i did follow an interesting thread around Christmas on aint-it-cool-news. You may have seen it, but here’s the link. Hope it’s ok to post this:

Many of the photo links are now dead, but the ones remaining are still great. Guess the movies. After the dead links the photos actually start appearing about a quarter of the way down the page. Awesome stuff.

A final note, watch out for the disc release of the movie Haywire. I’m hearing good things about that film (but, i’ve not seen it so it could be total cack).

Thanks again for this show (and The Rocketeer review show – i love that movie and will be buying it on Blu-ray soon).

Rob (a fan of the Richard Lester Musketeer movies. If you hadn’t already guessed)
